The way we know things is changing…
I couldn’t have been more wrong about Grant, the yoga guy. I really thought it was meant to be…his soothing voice, his broad scope of tools, the way I was able to move in his class.... I just knew he would be amazing to teach on my retreats. But then, after two absolutely delightful conversations, feeling incredibly chuffed about my ‘knowing’ sense of him as a real asset to my roster of teachers, he ghosted me. Literally didn’t hear from him for a month and even then, just a long winded voice message about being sick.
And then on the other hand, I couldn’t have been more right about Covid. From the very first mention of wet markets, bats and pangolins - I had a full body YA-RIGHT! And the same goes for the Vax. Another full-body No-F’ing-way. No matter how insane that personal decision became to defend, I just knew- all along- that it was not a good idea. Yay for me.
I also knew, intuitively, that INTUITION would become more of “a thing” in the wellness space. Looks like, I was right. So another win. I intuited intuition.
And that’s the way intuition works. You win some, you lose some, and then.. with awareness, honesty and practice, you just might win some more. And more.
Interoception as the pathway to your intuition
A natural byproduct of heightened interception (which I wrote about in Part one) is heightened intuition. Your intuition is like a specialised branch of interception- also an internal experience, and also one that helps us to take actions that contribute to homeostasis, ensuring we stay well and safe, and our needs are met.
The sharper your intuition..
The more empowered you are.
The more time, money and energy you save.
The more sovereignty and autonomy you build over your body and life.
The easier it becomes to navigate life's challenges.
The less you need to rely on external sources for anticipating outcomes.
How To Intuite
Lower the noise
The sound of knowing is quiet -and the feeling of knowing is subtle - so it’s hard to sense it in a noisy space- like a noisy head or a noisy life. This means that every time you consciously move to quiet spaces, or carve out quiet time, or find stillness in your life - you are making it easier for yourself to know knowing.
The one you feed
Your intuition needs attention and praise, like a child, in order for it to mature properly. Your intuition flourishes with loving acknowledgment when it does a good job for you. Make sure you give yourself credit for finding a sense of knowing, for your ability to discern, and following it - every time you do so, which will feed and strengthen the muscle. ”Yippie! I knew it!” and of course, do the same for others, “Wow! You knew it, your intuition is so strong! high five!”
Words are spells
Since words are spells- a potent affirmation: “My sense of intuition is strong and consistently and clearly leads me to my highest understanding and best possible outcome”.
It’s often first
A common characteristic of intuition is that it speaks first, the first instinct, the initial gut sense. So before you move the “unknown” to the mind to figure out, or to outsource for help, just check there isn’t already a hunch there. And note it.
Close your eyes
Intuition is a sense, just like interception is a sense. Our sight brings in such a huge percentage of the data we use, they say 80% - so it’s very helpful to close them when we want to use our other senses, like our intuition.
Experience 4 to 12 Hz
Lowered brain wave states such as the Theta states - present in deep states of relaxation is your best gateway to your intuition. The lower the frequency of your brain waves, the more attuned you can become to your inner world and subconscious processes. You can also do this by listening to binaural beats with over-ear headphones.
Tend to your body (as the container of your intuition)
I walk around most of the time thinking i’m Emily - forgetting that I am not my thoughts, that I am the one experiencing my thoughts, and that I’m stuck on planet Earth, spinning at 1,040 miles per hour, by an invisible force called gravity. When I do remember that- I love my body more. And when I love my body more, my intuition settles in tighter, like the kitty who finally stops kneading the blanket and settles into place. Obviously there are myriad ways you can tend to your body but know this: each time you do, you are also tending to your intuition.
Getting it wrong
Time is a funny one. What might seem like an error in judgement, with time, might just turn out to be the best possible thing that could have happened. We all know this one. So release the urge to label your intuition as ‘wrong’. It might just be too soon to say. And, sometimes there is simply a glitch in the Matrix. In the mighty field of consciousness, where the waves and particles of all knowing reside, sometimes circuits get tangled. Never make the assumption you have ‘bad intuition’. Your body is listening to these beliefs. Laugh, move on, and keep intuiting.
After Grant ghosted me, I remembered my lovely friend Carina, a truly wonderful yoga teacher, and how I had wanted to work with her. And in the end, it was perfecto!
